Radnage House Riding School was formed in 1946 by the Smallwood family and run by Miss Pat Smallwood (FBHS). The school had the first indoor riding arena in the UK and some of the best facilities of the time. Radnage House was home to some of the best equestrians, Richard Meade OBE was based at Radnage when he became the first British rider to win an Olympic Gold Medal at he 1972 Olympics. .
Similarly Gill Watson was trained at Radnage House for many years. Gill writes ''Radnage House Riding School was a school where you could learn to ride age 5 or train for your fellowship! Miss Smallwood's training was for life, and much of what I learnt from her will always be with me".
Joss Gray also trained at Radnage and gained his BHSI while working at the school.
Radnage House has a long history of supporting Riding for the Disabled, including being honoured by a visit from Princess Anne in 1973 as Patron of the RDA. The visit was reported in the Daily Mail from where the picture on the left was taken.
As well as achieving the highest accolades, (horses from Radnage have competed at Badminton, Burghley, HOYS etc), Radnage House has also inspired a love of horses and riding in many over the years producing hundreds of riders and creating many fond memories.
